Walmart Asia Reveals Achievements Of Its Women's Economic Empowerment Initiatives In Asia

Walmart said it has spent almost $8 million on Women’s Economic Empowerment-related initiatives in Asia during the last two to three years as of August 2013. The retailer’s cash and non-cash donations and investments aimed at women’s economic empowerment cover three areas: sourcing from women-owned businesses, empowering women through training, and promoting diversity and inclusion. Some of the active women empowerment programs in Asia include the Walmart Women’s Development Fund in China, Walmart Japan’s partnership with social enterprise Florence in Japan, and free skills training through the Bharti Walmart Training Centers in India.
